This is the first book I had published. At the time, I was working as an in-house editor at Somerville House Books in Toronto. The publisher wanted this manuscript written quickly and suggested that perhaps I could do it. I think she was joking, but I said, “YES!” and spent the next few weeks writing this book. This was when a certain company’s plush bean-bag toys were hugely popular, so this make-your-own kit was hoped to be a hit with crafty kids. My mom and Toronto artist Catherine Heard designed the critters. I liked making up character sketches for each of the animals in the book. This book was sold inside a boxed kit, including plush fabric, eyes, noses. Patterns are in the back of the book. I received a bonus for writing this book, which was nice.
