Kid Stuff #2: Poetry

I wrote these poems for my two library talks for young children during Canadian Children's Book Week 2012. Poetry is such a fun diversion, but -- man! -- it can take a long time to craft them just right. Let me know what you think!

The Kids’ Table ABC

Ants on a log
Banana pennies
Carrot crunchers
Dappled apples
Easy over eggs

Frosted fairy cakes
Groovy grapes
Ham, which?
Ice-cream sandwich?
Jumpin’ jungle juice

Kabob crazies
Lacy lettuce fans
Mini muffins
Noodle oodles
Orange slices

Pretzel pick up
Quiche tarts
Raisin wrinklies
Squishy-squooshy squash
Toasted triangles

Upside-down cake
Vanilla pudding
Watermelon ‘n’ waffles
eXtra delicious
Yummy treats

           (Pssst! Now it’s naptime.)
                   Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Night Fears

The hoogully boogully bum
        Is coming after my tum

The hoogully boogully bee
        Is going to catch my knee

The hoogully boogully bear
        Tells me I better beware

The hoogully boogully bat
        Takes off just like that

             Uh oh
                    —Splat!
