Amazing Women Athletes
“The year is 1922. At the end of a busy day of work at a chocolate factory, a young woman called “Bobbie” hurries to a local women’s sports club. She pulls on a pair of baggy black shorts, which she ties at the waist with a thin rope. She tugs an oversized T-shirt over her head, yanks on her running shoes and rushes out to the track. Ahh! This is where she’s wanted to be all day.”

At 75 pages, this was my first “long” children’s book. I wrote it in 3 months, researching in the evenings and writing every Friday. Looking back, I can’t believe I managed to do that! After researching and writing about these truly amazing women, I felt quite close to them all. This book was nominated for a Hackmatack award in Atlantic Canada. I gave lots of book talks and went to a fantastic awards ceremony in Moncton, New Brunswick. It was heartwarming to meet so many passionate readers.
